Community Service Award
Share |

Lawyers Club established the Community Service Award in 1985 to honor a Lawyers Club member whose local community activities have served to improve the status of women and to promote equality.

Recipients of the Lawyers Club of San Diego Community Service Award:

2017 Hon. Yvonne E. Campos

We are honored to present the 2017 Community Service Award to Hon. Yvonne E. Campos. To say that Judge Yvonne E. Campos is “committed” to public service is an understatement. It is part of the fabric of who she is, and she gives herself fully when she gives her time.

Judge Campos has been a San Diego Superior Court
Judge since October 2003. In July 2012, she was
appointed to the Appellate Division. She previously
presided over the Central Division Domestic Violence
and Criminal Trial Departments, the Juvenile
Dependency Department in Juvenile Court, and
the Criminal Trial Department in the South County
Division.

Prior to her appointment to the bench, Judge Campos was an Assistant United States Attorney for over eight years. She served in the Southern District of California as a Deputy Chief in the General Crimes Section. She was nationally recognized as a federal narcotics prosecutor, and has received several awards from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Her commitment to the community is demonstrated by the many causes she has devoted time to, including facilitating and moderating panels for Lawyers Club, San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association. Judge Campos wears several hats as a board member and director of a variety of organizations. She also previously served on the Immigration and Naturalization Service Citizens’ Advisory Panel, pro bono Staff Counsel to the Independent Commission on the Los Angeles Police Department, and as a member of the Board of Directors of California Rural Legal Assistance, Inc.

Judge Campos facilitates opportunities that reach multiple groups within the community, such as when she chaired the Keynote Speakers Committee for the 2014 National Association of Women Judges Conference in San Diego. The keynote speakers included Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

Judge Campos also co-chairs the San Diego County High School Mock Trial Competition, a competition that has grown from four schools in 2007 to 28 schools today, now serving 574 students from schools across the county.
