Structure and Subcommittees

The HTC falls under the governance of Lawyers Club of San Diego’s Board of Governors, and specifically within the Community Relations Section.

2017-2018 Vice President Danna Cotman | 2016-2017 Co-chairs Megan Walker and Danica Taylor

HTC created the following subcommittees to address its objectives. Join Lawyers Club and the HTC to contribute your skills in one or more of the following areas.

Survivor Services
Co-Chairs: Christy Heiskala and Courtney Strange

The Survivor Services Subcommittee identifies ways to connect human trafficking survivors with attorneys willing to provide pro bono legal representation to assist them with obtaining the legal services necessary to move forward with their lives. In addition, the Survivor Services Subcommittee works with social service agencies serving human trafficking survivors to identify areas of need and develop initiatives to address these needs.

Advocacy
Co-Chairs: Jennifer Gigliotti and Jamie Quient

The Advocacy Subcommittee tracks the progress of all human trafficking bills working their way through the state and federal legislatures, updates the Human Trafficking Collaborative and Lawyers Club members on the status of these bills, and works closely with local public officials to raise awareness about this issue. The Advocacy Subcommittee also engages in legislative advocacy aimed at identifying and supporting legislative solutions to address human trafficking and support survivors.

Legal and Community Education
Co-Chairs: Kim Berry Jones and Colette Menaldino

The Legal and Community Education Subcommittee organizes training programs to educate attorneys, judges, law students and community members on human trafficking and develops partnerships with organizations fighting the issue of human trafficking and those working with populations at risk of being trafficked, such as homeless youth and foster youth.
