In 2014, Lawyers Club and the Association of Corporate Counsel–San Diego Chapter (ACC-SD Chapter) formed a dynamic Joint Task Force on Gender Equality to spark a dialogue within top-levels of law firms and at the C-Suite level regarding the advancement of women in the legal profession.

The Joint Task Force on Gender Equality is an unprecedented initiative that brings together general counsel and law firm managing partners from throughout San Diego in a strategic initiative to drive long-term business practices that promote inclusion and equality within the legal profession. The goal is to foster an environment to cultivate high-level discussions regarding best practices.

Programs
In November 2015, the ACC-SD and the Joint Task Force on Gender Equality hosted an MCLE program, “The Neuroscience of Decision-Making in Law and Business,” featuring nationally recognized expert, Kimberly Papillon. The interactive program discussed the science behind decision-making and strategies to overcome cognitive roadblocks that may hinder inclusion, creativity, and success. The event was a huge success, with nearly 100 general counsel and managing partners attending, all dedicated to taking steps to improve equality and inclusivity in the legal profession.

Next Steps
The Joint Task Force on Gender Equality will continue to collaborate with prominent members of the legal community to develop strategies and programming to address gender equality and inclusion, which are key components of Lawyers Club’s mission to advance the status of women in the law and society.
