2018 Mehry Mohseni

Mehry Mohseni grew up in Encinitas and graduated from Carlsbad High School. Mohseni credits her father, originally from Iran and now-US citizen, with instilling in her the importance of education and hard work. Mohseni credits her mother, who worked full-time throughout Mohseni’s childhood, with teaching her the importance of reading, staying well-informed, and always questioning the status quo.

Mohseni graduated magna cum laude from California State University, Long Beach, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and a minor in Child Development and Family Studies. During college, Mohseni worked as a pre-school teacher assistant and as a visitation supervisor for families affected by domestic violence. After graduation, Mohseni became a program assistant for the National Family Justice Center Alliance. In this role, she helped coordinate communities and multi-disciplinary service providers throughout the nation to provide better services for victims of family violence.

Mohseni found it inspiring to see communities come together to improve the lives of women and girls. Mohseni obtained her Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law. She served as Vice President of the Public Interest Law Foundation, Secretary of the Women’s Law Caucus, and Community Chair of the Child, Family and Elder Law Society. During law school, Mohseni also clerked for the San Diego Superior Court’s Juvenile Division, where she assisted in addressing juvenile dependency and delinquency issues. Additionally, Mohseni clerked for the San Diego County Counsel, Juvenile Dependency Division, where she represented Child Welfare Services in numerous dependency matters.

Mohseni has been an active member of Lawyers Club since 2012 when she joined in her second year of law school. Mohseni co-chaired the Membership Committee in 2015-2016, and has co-chaired the Reproductive Justice Committee since 2016.
