Hon. Loren Freestone - Moderator

The Hon. Loren Freestone was appointed to the San Diego Superior Court in 2018 by Governor Jerry Brown. He served as President of the San Diego County Bar Association in 2017 and was a partner at Higgs Fletcher & Mack prior to appointment with emphasis on employment related matters. Judge Freestone’s other community involvement includes serving as a board member of the Tom Homann LGBT Law Association, and chair of the San Diego County Bar Association’s Ethnic Relations and Diversity Committee and the Bar’s Diversity Fellowship Program.

   
   
   
  Robert Bodian - Speaker

Robert Bodian is the managing partner of Mintz and a seasoned trial lawyer with a very active litigation practice and decades of experience covering a number of areas including employment, commercial disputes, private equity, financial services, insurance, securities, real estate, sports law, and banking. Mr. Bodian has extensive experience defending companies and their directors and officers in securities litigation and related matters, including claims arising out of acquisitions, going private transactions, restatements, and allegations of financial irregularities. He is very highly regarded by those in the boardroom and those in the courtroom, having advised senior executives in challenging situations and successfully tried through verdict numerous jury and non jury trials in federal and state courts. Mr. Bodian has been named as one of the Top Ten Innovative Managing Partners, and has been at the forefront of modifying traditional law firm metrics, such as origination credit.

   
   
   
  Joni Gaudes- Speaker

Joni Lee Gaudes is Vice President, General Counsel at ASICS America Corporation, the brand known for performance footwear and apparel. She is the head of legal, compliance, intellectual property and internal audit for the United States, Canada, Mexico and certain countries in Latin America. Ms. Gaudes is also responsible for managing all claims and litigation for or against the company. Before ASICS, she held General Counsel and senior level positions for various companies such as 1-800-DENTIST and FCTI, Inc. Prior to going in-house in 2006, she was a trial attorney defending insurance companies in insurance bad faith actions. She received her B.A from UC Santa Barbara and her J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law. She is also a Board member of ACC-Southern California and a Corporate Section member of the Orange County Bar Association. Ms. Gaudes is a frequent speaker on diversity and elimination of bias issues.

   
   
   
 

 O'Brien Kelley- Speaker

 

O'Brien Kelley is Vice President of Legal and Business Affairs at Strategic Legal Solutions in New York, where he serves as in-house counsel advising the company's consulting clients on a range of data privacy issues. Prior to that, Mr. Kelley was Of Counsel at DLA Piper in Washington, New York and Los Angeles, representing pharmaceutical companies in large, multi-jurisdictional actions. While at DLA Mr. Kelley began and lead the firm’s LGBT Affinity Group and co-chaired the Diversity Committee for the firm’s New York office. He was also a member of the Recruiting Committee and represented the firm at the National Gay and Lesbian Bar Association’s annual conference. In his transactional practice, he represented major film studios, lenders and independent film producers in financing transactions and was fortunate enough to be a producer of the Academy Award® winning documentary short, Freeheld, a pre-marriage equality film that showed the real-life, devastating effects of legal discrimination on the lives of two American women who demanded to be treated equally and with dignity.
