Equality Survey

Lawyers Club’s Annual Equality Survey is a critical initiative that helps monitor our mission to advance the status of women in the law and society here in San Diego County. The Equality Survey creates visibility surrounding the unequal representation of women and minority groups in the legal profession. The Survey provides information to empower members of the legal profession to take action against gender discrimination.

In 2015 the Equality Survey underwent a variety of changes as did the publication of the results. Below are the new publications associated with the 2016 Equality Survey, they contain the Pipeline to Equality in Public and Private Sectors Summary, which provides readers with a visually appealing overview of our findings. We thank all of the private firms and public agencies for their participation in the Equality Survey. Also featured below, is the Pipeline to Equality in Public and Private Sectors Annual Report that displays all of the 2016 Equality Survey components including our methodological approach, data tables, and full results.

Annual Equality Survey Report

2016 Pipeline to Equality in Public and Private Sectors - Summary
Lawyers Club is building on 24 years of data with an updated electronic survey in 2015 that dramatically increased responses compared to previous years. Early in the survey’s history, women were reported to be 23% of all attorneys in private firms within San Diego County. As of 2016, women now comprise 36% of all attorneys in San Diego County.

Purpose of the Equality Survey:

- To provide awareness as to the current status of women and minorities within private law firms and public agencies.

- To empowering members of the legal profession to take action against gender discrimination.
The Survey is traditionally published annually in the November Issue of Lawyers Club News and the results are presented at the November Luncheon.

The Survey is conducted under the The Equality and Action Committee, which addresses various issues related to gender bias and barriers to advancement in the San Diego legal community. The committee conducts the Annual Equality Survey of San Diego public agencies and private sector law firms to assess the status of women in the legal profession in San Diego, organizes the Annual Equal Pay Day luncheon to highlight and address pay equity, and promotes gender equity through programming and supporting similar efforts in the greater San Diego community.
