     Elvira Cortez
President 2019-2020

Elvira Cortez is an attorney at Dinsmore & Shohl LLP, where she practices business, commercial, and employment litigation.  Her experience includes representing businesses in a variety of legal matters, including breach of contract, trademark and copyright infringement, interference with business advantage, and defending employment lawsuits.  Elvira received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles and Juris Doctorate from American University College of Law.  Elvira has been named in the San Diego Business Journal's Best of the Bar for 2016 and 2017. Elvira previously co-chaired Lawyers Club’s Annual Dinner Committee and Diverse Women’s Committee.



  Yahairah Aristy

Vice President – Community Relations Section

Deputy Public Defender at the Office of the Primary Public Defender

Yahairah Aristy serves as a board director for Lawyers Club of San Diego and is the Vice President for Community Relations. Previously Yahairah served as the Affiliate Governor for the board of directors for the California Women Lawyer, and previously co-chaired the Diverse Women, Membership Development and Law Student Outreach committees. Yahairah is a Deputy Public Defender in the Public Defender’s Office since 2005 and handles a wide array of adult felony cases. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, and a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University. Yahairah serves as the President for the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Foundation. She previously served as the Vice President, Secretary, Chair of the 2018 Annual Gala and Co-Chair of the 2017 Annual Gala. Yahairah serves as a board member for transcenDANCE. Yahairah is an alumna of The Women Campaign School at Yale University. Yahairah served as a steering committee member and Vice President for the Political Action Committee for the National Women Political Caucus – San Diego Chapter. Yahairah served as co-campaign manager for the first African American elected to the La Mesa City Council.




Brigid Campo

Brigid Campo is a Certified Family Law Specialist and a Research Staff Attorney for the San Diego Superior Court. Campo has been named as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers since 2015 and was the recipient of the SDCBA's 2016 Award for Outstanding Service by a New Attorney in recognition of her commitment to community service and pro bono work. While serving Lawyers Club, in addition to serving on the Board of Directors, Campo's leadership roles have included chairing the Leadership Development Committee, Work-Life Balance Committee, Reproductive Justice Committee, East County Working Group, and Mediation Task Force. She is also a member of the Junior League of San Diego and the chair of the SDCBA's Community Service Committee. Her favorite role of all, though, is as mother to her young son. 


Tracy Schimelfenig

Vice President - Finance & Fundraising Section; Treasurer

Tracy Schimelfenig is a litigation attorney with California Business Law Group, PC. Her practice focuses on business and trusts and estates litigation. She advocates for small to medium sized businesses and individuals in resolving disputes and has litigated claims in state and federal court involving breach of contract, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, interference with business advantage, misappropriation of trade secrets, trademark and copyright infringement, unfair competition, defamation, invalidity of trusts, elder abuse, accounting, and eminent domain. Tracy has been active in Lawyer Club leadership for some time and most recently served as Treasurer, co-chair of the Law Firm Outreach Committee and a member of the Sponsorship Committee. She has previously co-chaired other committees, including Annual Dinner, Red, White & Brew and Professional Advancement, as well as being very involved on numerous other committees. Tracy received her B.A. from Marywood University and J.D. from California Western School of Law.




Megan Walker

Megan Walker is an attorney with Fisher Phillips, where she practices employment law. Her practice includes litigation defense of single-plaintiff and class and collective action lawsuits, appellate law, and employment advice and counseling. Megan has co-chaired the Annual Dinner Committee, the Women’s Advocacy Committee, and the Human Trafficking Collaborative. Megan is an alumna of New York University (B.A.), the Fashion Institute of Technology (A.A.S.), and the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law (J.D.). A beneficiary of the mentorship and sponsorship of several powerful women throughout her career, she seeks to advocate for those behind and next to her in the leadership pipeline.





Kimberly Ahrens

Kimberly Ahrens continues to serve Lawyers Club, as she has since 2005, as a dedicated member and leader. Ahrens is a co-chair for the Annual Dinner, and in past years, helped form the LGBTQ Task Force which gained committee status after just eight months. The committee coordinated various events acknowledging and addressing the unique challenges of LGBTQ attorneys and law students, including The Ask Workshop: 3 Secrets to Asking for More (and Getting It), the LGBTQ Rights Up For Interpretation?, a booth at San Diego Pride She Fest, and a Lawyers Club contingent to march in the Pride Parade. Over the years, she has served on the Diverse Women’s, Professional Advancement, and Events Committees where she helped organize numerous events including the inaugural Equal Pay Day Luncheon, the Annual Women of Color Reception, the Fall Judicial Reception, and luncheons. Outside of Lawyers Club, Ahrens devotes her work ethic and passion for diversity to our community by representing victims of discrimination and harassment.  



Shannon Finley

Associate at Pettit Kohn Ingrassia Lutz & Dolin



Shannon Finley is an employment attorney and experienced litigator at Pettit Kohn Ingrassia Lutz & Dolin who defends California employers against individual harassment, retaliation, defamation, and wrongful termination claims, as well as complex wage and hour class action claims.  She also provides guidance to employers so that they may avoid legal trouble before it arises. 


Finley is a Director of Lawyers Club of San Diego, California Women Lawyers Affiliate Governor for Lawyers Club of San Diego, and will be serving as a co-chair of the Membership Development Committee.  As an individual who has benefitted personally and professionally from her involvement in Lawyers Club, Finley is passionate about the Membership Development Committee.  Finley enjoys helping new members discover the benefits of Lawyers Club and helping current members maximize their memberships.  Finley previously served as the co-chair of the Women’s Advocacy Committee, and Law Student Outreach Committee.  She was recently honored by Lawyers Club San Diego with the C. Hugh Friedman New Lawyer Award which recognizes a member who has been a champion in advancing Lawyers Club’s mission and who has demonstrated leadership and professionalism in the San Diego legal community. 





Katherine Lee Carey



Leadership Development Committee (LDC) Co-Chair, Kate Lee Carey, is Special Counsel in Cooley’s Education Regulatory Practice Group. Her practice centers on assisting education providers in complying with federal and state education-related laws and regulations, including those governed by the U.S. Department of Education.  Kate has been practicing law since 2000.


Kate co-chaired the LDC last year as well, and was co-chair of the Equality and Action Committee the prior year.  Kate has also been actively involved in the Diverse Women’s Committee and Reproductive Justice Committee, and this year, Kate was elected to the Lawyers Club Board of Directors. 


In addition to Lawyers Club, Kate serves on the Board of the California Innocence Project (CIP) and is the Chairperson of the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education Advisory Committee. In 2017, Kate was awarded Cooley San Diego’s Pro-Bono Attorney of the Year Award, as well as the CIP’s “XONR8R” Award.


In her spare time, Kate loves to travel abroad, read, watch TV, eat, take an alarming number of dog pictures that she narrates in her dogs’ voices and posts on Instagram, walk on the beach, and hang with the saint of a man she married.  




Amanda LoCurto

Senior Associate at Singleton Law Firm

Amanda LoCurto is an attorney at Singleton Law Firm where she focuses on fire litigation, personal injury, and post-judgment enforcement. Amanda is the co-chair of the Equality & Action Committee and has co-chaired the Women’s Advocacy Committee, Work-Life Balance Committee, and Reproductive Rights Committee, and has served on the Leadership Development and Professional Advancement Committees. Amanda is also a member of Consumer Attorneys of California and Consumer Attorneys of San Diego, WILDCOAST’s Baja Bash Committee, Run Women Run, and San Diego Leadership Alliance.



Jinsook Ohta



Women’s Advocacy Committee co-chair, Jinsook (“Jin”) Ohta is a consumer protection attorney at the California Attorney General’s Office. Before joining the Attorney General’s Office, she was a defense attorney at Sheppard Mullin in San Diego and O’Melveny & Myers in Los Angeles. She also served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Thomas Jefferson School of Law and served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Barry Ted Moskowitz, federal district court judge.


Ohta is on the Lawyers Club Board of Directors and this is her second year co-chairing the Women’s Advocacy Committee. In addition to her work with Lawyers Club, Ohta has served on the Board of KIPP San Diego, a charter school that seeks to close the achievement gap for minority and ESL students from underserved communities.  She has overseen the school’s efforts to counteract educational inequalities and enable their students to pursue their college dreams. She has also previously served on the Board of the San Diego Korean American Bar Association.


Ohta lives in San Diego with her husband and two boys and enjoys traveling, reading and yoga when she can find free time. 




Maggie Schroedter

Associate at Higgs Fletcher & Mack



Maggie Schroedter is a business and bankruptcy litigator at Higgs Fletcher & Mack, LLP. She represents businesses and individuals as both debtors and creditors, as well as in bankruptcy litigation and bankruptcy appeals. Maggie’s litigation experience also includes complex business disputes involving breach of contract, fraud, intentional business torts, and preference and fraudulent transfer matters. Maggie is a co-chair of the Professional Advancement Committee. Previously, Maggie served as co-chair of the Membership Development Committee, co-editor of Lawyers Club News, led the team that spearheaded the inaugural Equal Pay Day Luncheon to raise awareness of gender pay inequality, and co-chaired the Equality and Action, Leadership Development and Student Committees.  She was recently selected as a 2018 American Bar Association On the Rise – Top 40 Young Lawyer, as well as a Super Lawyers Rising Star.





  Amanda Singer
Co-Owner at San Diego Family Mediation Center

Amanda Singer is the co-owner and professional family mediator of San Diego Family Mediation Center where she works with couples going through divorce and other family conflicts who want to be able to stay out of court, keep their costs down and not hate each other at the of the process. Amanda is a graduate of Brandies University, Chapman University School of Law and Pepperdine University School of Law Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution. Amanda is also Vice President of the Academy of Professional Family Mediators. Currently Amanda is co-chair of the Annual Dinner and previously chaired Networking Events and the Red White and Brew fundraiser event. 




Sara Waller

Assistant Treasurer



Sara Waller is an attorney with Berger, Williams & Reynolds, LLP, where she represents employees and employers in all areas of employment litigation. She received her B.S. from University of California, San Diego, and her J.D. from University of San Diego School of Law. Sara has been involved in the Lawyers Club since law school and has been actively involved on the Red, White, and Brew committee, the Workplace Equity & Civility Initiative, and served as a Co-Chair for the Equality and Action Committee. 




Julie Wolff

Assistant Secretary



Julie O. Wolff is a Certified Child Welfare Law Specialist who serves as an attorney, mediator, and owner of the Law & Mediation Office of Julie O. Wolff.  Ms. Wolff holds an LL.M. in Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine University School of Law’s Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution.  Ms. Wolff’s legal practice focuses primarily on child welfare/juvenile dependency, dispute resolution, and family law.  Ms. Wolff also serves on the San Diego County Court’s Family Law panel for appointment as Minor’s Counsel.


Ms. Wolff received her J.D. from California Western School of Law, along with High Honors in two concentrations (Trial Practice and Preventive Problem Solving).  Following graduation, Ms. Wolff clerked for the Honorable Judge Leon Aberasturi at the Third Judicial District Court of the State of Nevada, before jumping into juvenile law, first as a parent’s attorney in Sacramento, then as a minor’s attorney in San Diego.  In the summer of 2016, Ms. Wolff started her own practice focusing on Juvenile Dependency, Dispute Resolution, and Family Law.


Due to her passionate interests in public service and human rights, Ms. Wolff serves as the Co-Chair of the LGBT Committee and is on the Lawyer’s Club Executive Board.  Ms. Wolff is currently the Chair of the Family Law Section of the San Diego County Bar Association.  Ms. Wolff is also a member of the Tom Holmann Law Association and the National Association of Council for Children.





Arlene Yang

Arlene Yang is Of Counsel at Brown Law Group, where she specializes in employment litigation and counseling for companies. Currently, she is co-chair of Lawyers Club’s Annual Dinner Committee and previously served as co-chair of Lawyers Club's Professional Advancement Committee. Outside of Lawyers Club, Arlene is co-chair of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association's Labor and Employment Committee, and a past-president of the Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego. Arlene has extensive experience counseling and advising non-profit organizations and serves on the Board of Directors of transcenDANCE Youth Arts Project. Arlene is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and New York University School of Law.
