We seek to achieve our mission through action-based initiatives to create programs and educational resources, spread awareness, empower others to get involved, and advocate for the advancement of women in the law and society.

From our origins in 1972, gender equality has remained at the forefront of our focus. In fact, at only its second meeting on July 11, 1972 of this organization, following election of our first officers (Judith McConnell, Christine Pate, Lynn Schenk, Sharron Voorhees, and Louise DeCarl Malugen), the new board voted to create the Equal Rights Amendment Committee to pursue the ratification of the ERA and to address the barriers to passage of the ERA. The State of California ratified the ERA in November, 1972. Since 1983, the ERA has been reintroduced into the United States Congress every year and has yet to be passed.

With the help and dedication of our members, we have continued to focus on driving change and continuing the progress made by our founders. Areas of focus include supporting reproductive justice, combating sexual harassment in the workplace, combating domestic violence, and combating human trafficking
